Rufus Wainwright – The Old Vic, May 29th 2007

Rufus Wainwright in lederhosen

A lot can be said about Rufus Wainwright. He’s about one of the campest gays ever. He’s a drama queen. He makes loads of mistakes during gigs. Yet, he’s brilliant and he is the musical love of my life. I have seen him play at Paradiso in Amsterdam a couple of times, which have been great experiences. (more…)

If you know your Hamlet…

If you don’t, it’s not even remotely funny…

“But all I’m saying, Shakey”, ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Jason Mraz – Selections for friends

Today I went to a dangerous place. I clicked ‘iTunes Store’ in iTunes. I tell you, instant gratification for the music junkie. Is there such a thing as music rehab? Not that I’d want to, but with music available at your fingertips nowadays, it’s a possible debt problem waiting to happen.

Next week I am going to trek all the way to Brighton to finally finally see Jason Mraz live. I have been listening to his music for years now, but he never came to the land of the Dutch, so now I am here I am heading to Brighton to see him. I’ve been on a Mraz-a-thon for a few days now. I went to FOPP a few days ago and bought Live at Java Joe’s, which is fantastic. FOPP is also a dangerous place as it is close to my work, and they sell cheap cds. Not Good.

So today, I went online and bought Selections for friends, which is only available as download from iTunes. (more…)

Dalí & Film – Tate Modern

Now, I am not an art buff. I had my fair share of art theory and history courses when I did my degree. I found it interesting enough, but I am a theatre girl at heart and when it comes to art I like it or I don’t. It’s as simple as that. Some times I know a bit about the background of the artist in order to ‘get it’ beyong liking or disliking, but I’m fairly straight-forward and artsy-fartsy nonsense doesn’t usually fly with me.

On Wednesday I attended a private viewing of the Dalí & Film exhibition at the Tate Modern. A friend of mine had two free tickets through work and I don’t tend to say no to free stuff. So along I went. I like Dalí, his work fascinates me. I am never a fan of exhibitions to be honest. I have been to a few in my life and most of the time they end up being a disappointment, I remember the Vivienne Westwood exhibition at the V&A a while back. What a waste of money and 30 minutes that was…

This Dalí & Film exhibition pleasantly surprised me. (more…)

A Matter of Life and Death – National Theatre

Going to the theatre has always been a magical experience for me. I even made theatre into my career, although I’m on a bit of a hiatus. The instant make-believe world you enter as soon as you walk into the auditorium has never stopped to fascinate me. One of my favourite places to see theatre in London is the National Theatre on South Bank. It’s big and has so much to offer. They also have Travelex seasons, which means you can get decent seats for £10, which is A Good Thing.

Welcome

I have been blogging for a while on LiveJournal with rambles about stuff that’s going on in My Life. However, ever since moving to London there is so much to write about that can be shared with The World, I’d thought I’d start a different blog that everyone can read. This blog will contain tales of theatre, art, music, film and other random things.

So, welcome to Femke’s adventures in Londonland.
