iTunes Festival @ ICA, July 2007

iTunes Festival

As a music obsessee, I do like iTunes. Oh the instant gratification. They are also cool enough to organise a free festival at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA). It’s an invite only thing and you can win tickets for it. I was lucky enough to attend two gigs: Terra Naomi/Scott Matthews and Raul Midon/Beverly Knight.

Scott Matthews

I desperately wanted to see Scott Matthews. I recently discovered him and he is an incredible singer songwriter. The opening act was good, a girl called Terra Naomi. Scott’s set was very low-key, just him on guitar. He did, however, bring a string quartet, which made me happy! It was a lovely gig, very understated, but in a good way. I am already looking forward to seeing him support Rufus Wainwright in October!

Raul Midon

Last week I saw Raul Midon. He opened for Beverley Knight, who I didn’t see as I don’t like her very much. Raul, however, was worth it. I have seen Raul live a few times now and he never fails to amaze me. A hugely skilled musician, he does things to a guitar most people would be jealous of. His vocals are warm and soulful. He mainly performed new material, as his new album will be out soon. You could tell he still has to own his material a bit more, but nevertheless it was fantastic. To see such talent at work…
